Late Model Sportsman Bandit Bandolero Legend
Jefferson Late models are tube chassis race cars purposefully built for infinite adjustability to gain maximum grip on the racing surface. The average Late Model weighs 2800lbs and utilizes an engine producing in the neighborhood of 450 Horsepower. The engines have a maximum displacement rule of 362 cubic inches, are limited to a 10.8:1 compression ratio, and use a Holley 2 barrel carburetor. This engine configuration has proven economical to build, reliable to operate, and provides the best balance for the 8 inch American Racer 870 tires that have been adopted for use during the 2015 racing season. With an approximate field of 30 teams and drivers, and each car qualifying within .5 seconds of the others, Jefferson Late Models provide the closest and most fierce racing competition in the Midwest!
The Sportsman class car is an eight-cylinder stock car based on stock production compact cars. The class consists of any 1960 or newer American made passenger cars. All cars have been modified for driver protection (roll cage, racing seat and belts, fuel cell, etc.). The chassis is predominately stock. The engines are limited to 362 cubic inches, flat top pistons, stock heads, and limited cam lift. These cars compete on the American Racer 870 tire. Sportsman cars are the quickest division after the Late Models with the fastest times hovering around 15 seconds on the quarter mile. This class has proven to be popular with those seeking to learn how to set up a car so as to advance into the Late Model division.
Introduced in the 2001 season, the Bandit car is a “Pure Stock,” four-cylinder, front-wheel drive stock car, based on production, 1980 to 2013, American or foreign, automobiles. This division races most Saturday nights (see race schedule). The only modifications allowed to these vehicles are for driver protection (roll cage, racing seat belts, fuel cells, etc.) The chassis and suspension is absolutely stock. Don’t be surprised when they race around the track in the clockwise direction. This is the fun and affordable racing division, for those who want to discover the joys of racing, without spending a lot of money!
Using the same magic formula that made the Legend Cars the most mass-produced competition car in history, officials of USLCI have introduced the Bandolero Car. The Bandolero Car is a turnkey, spec-series racer designed for drivers as young as eight years old and the young-at-heart at any age.The Bandolero Car serves as a stepping stone between a 1/4 Midget or kart and a race car that is simple for everybody to use. The driver operates a Bandolero in a similar manner to a kart with left foot braking. The car is equipped with a centrifugal clutch so the driver does not have to shift gears. The Bandolero Car’s motivation is provided by a thumping Briggs & Stratton 570cc Vanguard engine mounted behind the driver. Small modifications have been made to the engine to bring the once 20HP stock engine to nearly 30HP. Bandolero’s can reach in excess of 70 mph, but do not accelerate very quickly.
Legends car racing is a style of auto racing designed primarily to promote exciting racing and to keep costs down. The race car bodyshells are 5/8-scale replicas of American automobiles from the 1930s and 1940s, powered by a Yamaha XJ1250, FJ1200 (both air-cooled), or starting in 2018, FZ09 (water-cooled) engine. The worldwide sanctioning body for legends car racing is INEX.
